There’s two reasons for an external hard drive to be cheap.
- You’re getting a good deal.
- It’s a poor quality hard drive.
Look at it this way – if you find one external hard drive at $80 and another at $120 but one has hundreds of reviews of people saying they’ve used it for years and the other has a few bad reviews – which one do you go for?
There’s a lot of cheap poor quality external hard drives out there which will not only be slow and a pain to use – but they might well break down on you. I know I personally have had a bunch of external hard drives break on me in the past.
It’s always a better deal to spend a little extra and get a good quality external hard drive which is going to last you. You might spend a few extra bucks in the short run but it’ll save you buying an entirely new 1TB external hard drive next month.
That said, there’s still a lot of high quality but cheap 1TB external hard drive models around. You can get cheap 1TB external hard drives from good brand names still, just look for the offers and there’s usually at least one or two going.
